Depression If a severe case of the blues ends up triggering a case of full-brown depression, you may be wondering how you are going to cope.Living with depression isn’t easy and you might be against taking prescription medication just to feel better. While medication can help to improve your mood, it won’t fix the root of the problem.
Taking some time to understand what is making you feel so down and so sad can help you overcome this depressive episode and appreciate the positive things in your life. You may need some support from close family members or friends, or maybe you just need a break from your daily routine.
Whatever the case may be, you may have overlooked some unconventional ways for managing depression.
Here are five surprisingly healthy and practical ways to overcome depression;

Crying Practically Helps You Overcome Depression

Bottling up your sadness or simply ignoring your feelings is only going to make the problem worse. Let yourself have a good cry and remember that this doesn’t have to be a public event!

Crying Out Loud

Take steps to remove yourself from social situations or events that you don’t have to go to when you’re feeling down. Give yourself a chance to shed those tears and you’ll feel much happier, calmer, and even refreshed.

Focus on Your Diet to Overcome Depression

Eating a well-balanced diet isn’t just good for your body; it’s also good for your mind. If you’re not eating enough wholesome, nutritious food and getting a good amount of healthy fats in your diet, you may be experiencing bouts of fatigue, mood swings, and have difficulty concentrating.
These problems can exacerbate anxiety and depression and make it that much harder to overcome it. Eating too much sugar or junk food can also contribute to a depressive episode.
Pay attention to your diet so you’re eating plenty of foods rich in complex carbohydrates for energy, and lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and lean protein. See more on it here.

Dancing Away From Depression

Get moving and learn some new skills by taking a dance class. If you’re too self-conscious to dance in public, rent some workout DVDs that teach you some basic dance moves. Dancing is a great aerobic activity that will get your heart pumping and blood flowing to the brain.

Dancing Happily

Vigorous exercise could be just what you need to boost your mood and fight fatigue. Even when you don’t feel like doing anything physical, just get started.
You’ll get into it within about 10 to 15 minutes and might even start enjoying it.

Practice Natural Relaxation Techniques

Deep breathing and meditation can help you feel more at ease and peaceful with your thoughts. Look at some beautiful photographs of natural scenery, close your eyes and visualize a pleasant scene, or listen to some soothing music in the middle of a hectic day.

Lake Meditation

Practicing different types of natural relaxation methods can help you feel more in control of your thoughts and essentially slow things down. When stress and anxiety levels are at an all time high, you may be at risk for depression because you are simply overwhelmed by stress.
Taking a mental “time out” can help you feel more balanced and enhance your mood.

Be Around Positive People to Overcome Depression

Avoid negative people and pessimists as often as you can because they can play a role in how you think and feel.
Make a conscious effort to connect with positive friends and family members – anybody that brings you up – so that you just feel good after meeting them or talking to them on the phone. Avoid people who bring you down and those who just have a negative view of the world in general.
Surrounding yourself with positive people can make a big difference to your mood and also help you feel more valued and connected – things that depression tends to take away.
It's over to you now. I'd be glad if you share your thoughts or want to get something clarified. I'd be much obliged if you share your experiences with me.
