You Are Bikini Ready

By Heather Murphy @MrsMurphysLOF

Sunday we hit the 80 degree mark in these parts and today it looks like it will do the same. I think it’s safe for me to pack up the sweaters and bring out the tanks.

I know this time of year can bring on some serious anxiety for a lot of us. I feel pressure to look perfect because I am trainer. I don’t want people to look at me and NOT want me to train them because I don’t look fit enough. Even if you aren’t in the health and fitness industry you worry about getting in your bikini. You feel like all eyes are on you and everyone notices the dimples on your thighs or the love handles peeking over.

Just know that you are not alone and we all have things about ourselves we would like to change.

Here are some tips that may make it a little easier to take off the wrap this year and actually have some fun in the sun.

You aren’t the only one wearing a bathing suit.

Seriously, it’s not like everyone is dressed to the nines and you unknowingly showed up to the party in your bikini. Whether you are at the beach or in your friend’s backyard, chances are everyone else is wearing a bathing suit too. I know it’s easy to feel like people are judging every inch of your body, but they aren’t. Heck, they are probably too busy thinking about their flaws. Breathe easy knowing we are all in this together, so we mine as well make the most of it and have a little fun.

While we are on the topic of fun..

Enjoy yourself.

Get in the water, play volleyball, have a few drinks and dance! Stay too busy to fret over not looking like a Victoria’s Secret model. They may look good on the beach, but I bet those bitches don’t have as much fun as you!

Wear a bathing suit that makes you feel confident.

Who cares about what type of bathing suit you should wear if you are ‘pear shaped’, and why are we comparing our bodies to fruit anyways? We’re all wearing the equivalent of underwear anyways, maybe a little more if you choose a onsie, so wear whatever you want.

Exercise.

If you’re exercising on the reg you are going to feel more confident in a bikini.  Working out is a self- esteem booster and the endorphin’s make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I like to do a quick workout right before I’ll be wearing my bathing suit because I automatically feel much better about my body even though I know I physically don’t look any different.

Do not compare!!

For the love of all that is holy, do not compare yourself to others. It’s a trap and we all do it, but I want you to put forth the effort to stop it immediately. Seriously, you will have to work at this but it’s worth it. It will be the difference in making amazing memories and feeling shame.

Every time you start comparing yourself to your friends, simply fix your attention on something else. I don’t care if you have to do it a million time in two hours, it will get easier once you train your brain to not automatically go there.

Get a spray tan.

Tanning beds are so 2005. The formula for spray tans have gotten really great over the years with a natural bronze look lasting around 4-5 days.

And everyone knows that fat looks better when it’s tan, and so does cellulite. Get a SPF lotion with bronzer to keep it looking fresh.

Any tips for feeling confident half naked in public?
