Why Proper Breathing is Invaluable When Working Your Core.

By Heather Murphy @MrsMurphysLOF

Correct breathing can make or break your workout. It can be the difference in finishing your workout strong, feeling like a rock star and quitting before your last set.

CORE

Breathing should be a main focus when doing ab work because inhaling and exhaling at the right time will engage the core, allowing you to get the most out of the exercise. Plus, you will be able to exercise longer with the improved stamina.

In fact, NOT breathing can be dangerous because it limits blood flow, increases blood pressure, causing headaches, and can increase the chance of passing out.

How to Breathe:
Inhale through your nose, pushing stomach out. Exhale through mouth, bringing belly button in and tightening stomach muscles.

When to breathe:
A rule of thumb for breathing when doing strength exercises is exhaling on the exertion. So, say you are doing a crunch- exhale when you bring your body off the ground and inhale when lowering.

exhale 2

inhale

Do you put emphasis on your breathing when exercising?
