Living and working everyday in the health & fitness world, my ‘uniform’ so to speak, is activewear; I’m in it all day long, every single day, so I’m always on the lookout for something different, comfortable, exciting, inspiring… This post, shot amongst the breathtaking and tranquil gardens of the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat (still one of my favorite places in the world) highlights an outfit from my latest fitness fashion find, Charli London. As the months go by, fashion and fitness continue to converge both on and off the catwalk, and going to the gym becomes ever-more the legitimate (and even appropriate) time to dress up; Pucci, Fendi, Armani, McCartney all have gorgeous SS14 fitness lines in the shops at the moment, and other even-higher fashion names are muscling in on the act as well (no pun intended). I’m even toying with the idea of some McQueen printed leggings for some super-extravagant gym chic!
Outside the gym, I don’t typically venture too far outside my ‘fashion comfort zone’, but I regularly switch persona every day with my fitness wear! It’s the one time where you can just go totally crazy-expressive, and vary your look drastically from day to day. I’ll comfortably wear bright neon colours, bold and outlandish printed patterns, garish t-shirt prints, and sometimes just team them with more classic and subtle pieces to fuse the overall look together.
One of my recent discoveries is the UK-based brand Charli London, whose creations indulge the body in some of the most sumptuous materials; impossibly soft cottons, floaty cashmeres and smooth silk blends. The way they mix the fabrics creates super-soft jersey basics with really flattering silhouettes (which I consider perfect for layering, to achieve a proper casual-chic result). I put together this super relaxed and comfy outfit from their summer collection for my recent blog trip to Cap Ferrat, where I wanted something loose (breathable), comfortable (deliciously soft) and a bit indulgent too for my morning yoga session.
The heavenly gardens in these pictures were crafted by the world-renowned landscape architect Jean Mus, who coincidentally appears in one of the pictures below – the very well dressed French gentleman who gifted me a beautiful flower :) It was wonderful to meet him and get an insight into his thinking around the gardens, and what he wanted to conjure up for those who wander! It’s added an extra dimension to my love of this special part of the world.
