Video: Young Filmmaker Explores Famous 1924 Everest Expedition

Posted on the 18 June 2020 by Kungfujedi @Kungfujedi

One of the great, enduring mysteries that surrounds Everest is whether or not George Mallory and Sandy Irvine reached the summit of the mountain back in 1924, nearly three decades before it was officially climbed by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. The thought of such a feat is so enticing, that a team of climbers even went to the North Side of the mountain last spring in an attempt to find Irvine's body in hopes of locating a long-lost camera that could hold proof of their success or failure. In this video, we explore this story further and look into theories as to how Mallory and his climbing partner could have potentially reached the top. And while the short documentary is intriguing in and of itself, I think you'll be charmed by its young host, who takes his subject matter very seriously.
