In an endless search for the world's biggest waves, Ramón Navarro, Léa Brassy and Kohl Christensen -- amongst others -- find themselves visiting a remote island located 500 miles (804 km) off the coast of Chile. There, they find a place that has managed to not only survive, but thrive, in an era when many ocean settings are under deep threat. The outsiders learn a lot about how the locals are working to protect this place, and why they also refer to visitors as los plásticos.
