Video: Kayaking Source to Sea on the Amazon River

Posted on the 27 June 2014 by Kungfujedi @Kungfujedi
This past December, kayakers Darcy Gaechter, Don Beveridge, and David Midgley completed a 4300-mile (6920 km) descent of the Amazon River, starting at its newly found furtherest source on the Rio Mantaro of Peru. Along the way, Darcy became the first woman to complete that journey, and they are the first team to do so without raft support. The video below gives us a glimpse of what that expedition was like, starting in the Peruvian mountains, then heading into wild whitewater, before giving way to the massive expanse of the Amazon proper. Keep your eyes peeled for the legendary pink dolphins of the Amazon as well. I saw them when I was there a few years back, and was amazed.
