Video: Apollo 11 and the Race to the Moon

Posted on the 18 July 2019 by Kungfujedi @Kungfujedi

As I mentioned yesterday, we're likely to see a number of different tributes to NASA, Apollo 11, and the first moon landing over the next few days as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of that achievement. The video above is one such tribute, taking us back in time to the start of the space race, which began with the launch of Sputnik in 1957 and continued on for decades afterwards. The height of that competition between the U.S. and the Soviet Union was in the race to the moon however, which essentially ended once Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the Eagle at Tranquility Base. This fantastic video takes us through all of those moments, providing context to everything that came before and after. For space nerds like myself, this is pure bliss.
