Dubbed Untamed New England: Abenaki Pursuit Edition in honor of the indigenous people who first explored the wild and remote places of the eastern U.S., the race will once again feature trekking, paddling, mountain biking, orienteering, and more. When describing the course in a press release announcing the return of the event, race director Grant Killian said “Overall, this is our most ambitious race course ever. And, that's saying something, given everything we've pulled off in previous editions."
The 2018 edition of Untamed will take place from July 24-29, giving racers four solid days of action. Leading up to the start of the event there will also be a number of pre-race actives, which Killian says will be more accessible and approachable than past versions. "The race base will be 5 hours or so CLOSER to major metropolitan areas in the US than we've ever had before," he says. "Teams should prepare for significant ‘transportation experiences’ both before and after the race."
Registration for the event are now open, and teams can claim their spot in the race by clicking here. The website also offers racers a list of mandatory gear, hints at the location, the disciplines involved, and more.
As a big fan of adventure racing, I'm happy to see Untamed back on the schedule. It has always been an outstanding race, and the 2018 edition seems like it is already shaping up to be a good one. I also have information on a couple of other races that might be returning next year too, so it could be a really great year for teams and fans who love the sport.
