Summer vanished some time ago, and even Autumn has nearly given up the ghost (small post-Halloween gag?). The clocks have gone back, which means that the impending wintery weather will be waging an assault on your immune system, if it hasn’t already! This post is about a quick little cold-pressed juice recipe which acts as a much-needed and intense immune boost! It’s an all-organic vitamin bomb that’s bursting with flavour – a combo of sweet, fresh and tangy – but also packs a serious health punch, right at the time of year you’ll need it most! The sweetness comes thanks to the apple – containing ursolic acid (cosmetics companies use this for its anti-ageing & collagen-boosting properties as well as skin firming, plus a bunch of vitamin-C) and carrot – a natural tanner as it contains β-carotene which is partly metabolised to vitamin A in us humans (eyesight) – though too much can give your skin a (temporary) orange hue! The tangy, refreshing taste comes mainly from the ginger – bursting with plenty of vitamin B complex, as well as potassium to look after your heart and blood pressure. The lime also plays a part in that – packed with vitamin C, a good source of potassium & calcium as well as acting in an antibacterial capacity. The parsley alone is a powerhouse too, packed with potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, and magnesium. There’s also something called ‘myricetin’ which is a flavonol shown to have preventative effects on some forms of skin cancer. Put them together in a cold-press juicer and voila!
INGREDIENTS:
1. 1/2 a cucumber
2. Handful of fresh flat-leaf Parsley
3. 1 knobble of ginger
4. 1 Peeled Lime
5. 1 Carrot
6. 1 Celery stick
7. 1 Apple
HOW TO:
1. Put it all in the cold press
2. Serve! Easy, this one :)
