The 2018 Adventure Racing World Championships are set to get underway next week on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, with competition taking place from November 5-16. But as the world's top AR teams begin to gather on that remote location, the AR World Series has also announced the location for the World Championships next year as well.As you'll see in the clip, the location for next year's event will be Sri Lanka, a place that has yet to host the AR World Championships. Next year's season ending racing will take place from December 3-13 and is set to cover 600 km (372 miles) with an official prize purse of $50,000. As usual, more than 50 teams are expected to compete in the event, although the exact limit has yet to be confirmed.
The AR World Series has carried the banner for the sport of adventure racing for nearly a decade now and has done an admirably job of bring it into the 21st century in terms of organization and coverage. Next year marks the return of Eco-Challenge however, and what that does to the AR landscape remains to be seen. EC has been gone for a long time now, but it still has Mark Burnett running things and Bear Grylls to serve as host/spokesman. Also, the race has signed a major deal with Amazon, ensuring that it will have a large audience to check out the competition.
