Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and it's hard to believe that it's right around the corner! I feel woefully unprepared in terms of my costume and plans for All Hallow's Eve, but I am ready with a frighteningly delicious treat. Trick or Treat, it's Spooky Halloween Trail Mix time!
What could possibly make a trail mix spooky and halloweeny? Oh, I'm so glad you asked. You see, each ingredient adds to the story.
The idea for this recipe came when Love Grown Foods sent me their new Limited Edition Bats & Boos cereal. I'm kind of obsessed with Love Grown's allergy friendly foods (hence the reason I'm an ambassador for their brand). Their cereals are all wheat-free, corn-free, gluten-free, vegan, and of course, totally spooktacular (see what I did there?). This cereal is even more awesome than their regular offerings because it's made of chocolate bats and vanilla ghosts!
I started with a base of bats and ghosts. Then I added in some dried blood from the vampire's layer (aka dried cranberries), seeds from the corpse of a Jack-o'-lantern (pumpkin seeds), wicked bites of darkness (chocolate chips)and a handful of nightmarish nuts gathered from a ghoulish graveyard (almonds).
The result is this dreadfully delicious, hauntingly healthy Spooky Halloween Trail Mix! Enjoy it by the handful, mixed in a cauldron with a splash of mummy juice (mixed in a bowl with milk) or on top of this Midnight Pumpkin Mocha Smoothie.
