Sound Off Silent Yoga

By Fitfulfocus @fitfulfocus

Thank you all for the feel better wishes. I think I’m FINALLY starting to kick this thing. In the meantime, the cold gave me a great idea for a local business.

If I were to open a little local drug store, I’d call it Tea & Tissues. #tea #tissues #sickday

Perfect, right?

Anywhooo, over the weekend I got to attend a really cool event courtesy of South Street Seaport and Sound Off Yoga.

Here’s what happened:

I met up with the lovely Angela, Katie, and Jenn at the South Street Seaport SUGARCUBE which basically looks like a giant floating marshmallow, or well, sugar cube, I guess. Seriously:

South Street Seaport SUGARCUBE We headed inside of this mallow/cube/bubble for our silent yoga class.

What is silent yoga? Basically, each member of the class has their own pair of wireless LED headphones, through which we can hear both the instructor and a curated live music mix played by a Sound Off DJ. We had DJ Panic, who was awesome.

What is so nice about this is that you can really focus on you. You don’t hear city noise, anyone else’s breath, no feet squeaking on the mat or loud mouth breathers.   It was really calming. Plus, the bubble/mallow/cube had black lights, so everything glowed all pretty like. Ooooo ahhhhh.   Sound Off Silent Yoga via Fitful Focus   I was worried the headphones would be uncomfortable or would keep moving around as I went from mountain to down dog, but they stayed right in place. Granted, I took it easy and slow do the fact that I most likely had a fever and couldn’t breath very well. Luckily, all the other yogis had headphones so no one could judge my mouth breathing and sniffling. #winning   Dj Panic at Sound Off Yoga

I love love loved the playlist. It was so calming. At the end, when we were in shavasana, DJ Panic mixed in the sound of crashing waves. It made me feel like I was in Costa Rica. Or maybe that was the fever giving me delusions. Either way, I was in paradise! Luckily, he posted his mix from the class on SoundCloud, so you can check it out. Listen, relax, get your flow on, and pretend your in Costa Rica with me when you get to the end.    And don’t forget, there’s still time to enter the Skinny Confidential Giveaway!   Let’s Chat: Have you ever done silent yoga or a silent disco?
If you opened a little drug store, what would you call it?
