I haven't raced since February, and this is the first time in years that I don't have any races on my calendar. It's a weird feeling to not be training for anything, and while I have enjoyed it, I'm ready to jump back into training mode.
"Nicole," you say, "Why the heck would you start training just as summer is beginning."
I know! I know! You're right. While I haven't experienced an Austin summer yet, I hear it's pretty brutal. BUT I have access to a treadmill. AND I've been itched it start ranking up miles again. So there's that.
I started looking for some good fall races to sign up for, and while there are a few local races I may put on my calendar, I'm also in the mood for a little getaway!
After spending a few hours Googling "The Best Half Marathons in September/October/November/December" (yes, all the months), September rose to the top. I also figured the weather would be pretty reliable in September in most parts of the country. So without further ado, my list of September Weekend Getaway Racecations.
Date: September 2-3, 2017
Distance: 1 Mile, 5K, and/or Half Marathon
Beaches, boardwalks, Ferris wheels and cotton candy? Virginia Beach sounds like a great place to spend what will likely be one of the last warm weekends of the year on the east coast. Rock'n'Roll races are usually pretty fun, too.
Date: September 3, 2017
Distance: Half Marathon
This small-town race is supposed to have a beautiful scenic course through Oregon's wine country. Destination Oregon plans ancillary events and other activities during race weekend, and the course is less than an hour from Portland. Explore a new city, drink some wine, run a race. Sounds pretty good to me!
Date: September 24, 2017
Distance: 5K and Half Marathon
You can't go wrong with a trip to Chicago. There is so much to see, eat and experience there. Plus, because it's a major city, it's pretty easy to get to.
Date: September 24Distance: Half Marathon
This race takes you through vineyard lined neighborhoods in the charming California countryside. Finishers receive a bottle of Napa Valley wine, as well as a medal. If that's not reason enough to run this race, I don't know what is. Enjoy a relaxing weekend in wine country or spend some time in San Francisco before or after running the race, and you've got the makings of a great racecation.
Date: September 24th
Distance: 8k and Half Marathon
I've heard so many amazing things about Charlotte, and this race is just another reason to visit. It runs through tree-lined streets and residential neighborhoods. The course is flat and shaded. I'm in for that! Plus, Charlotte seems like a great place to go for an active weekend getaway that wouldn't be too touristy.
I'll wait to announce which race I decided on. I know you can hardly stand the suspense! How about you pass the time by joining the Wild Workout Wednesday Link Up?
