Runners Who Wine Episode 23: Body Image & Running

By Fitfulfocus @fitfulfocus
This week we're tackling body image & running: we're sharing unflattering race photos, how running has impacted our body image, and what it means to have a runner's body. Runners Who Wine Episode 23: Body Image & Running

Having a positive body image is, quite unfortunately, something most of us struggle to achieve. We look in the mirror or see photos of ourselves and don't alway see the strong, beautiful people we are.

I know I'm in shape. I know my body is 1,000x stronger than it was ten years ago, and yet I still have days where I'm not happy with how I look. Then I have days where I think I look amazing or races where I see the photographer and think I gave them a great look-at-me-making-this-race-look-easy pose, and then I see a photo a few days later and go, "OOPH! I was wrong. I look terrible." And yet I felt strong and positive in the moment. A simple unflattering photo has this insane power to change our memories and make us feel horrible about ourselves. Why?

Is it because we live in a world curated by the perfect instagram aesthetic? Is it because we only share the best parts of ourselves, so when something isn't 100% perfect we're that much more affected by it?

In this week's episode of Runners Who Wine, Annmarie and I are chatting about our own body image, how running has impacted said image, what it means to have a runner's body and how we try to remain positive in a world of comparison traps.
