When the New Year rings in and we finally have a chance to start fresh, most of us are super motivated in the first few weeks, but then after that, the novelty wears off. When it comes to staying fit and healthy we spend the first week of January eating bland salads and drinking a gallon of water (or more), and then eventually our old habits come back. However, drinking a lot of water shouldn’t be a fad.

Below are 9 reasons why you should make sure to drink plenty of water every day, for both yourhealth and your happiness.

1. It Feeds the Brain

If you are ever having one of those days where nothing you do seems to be going right and you cannot concentrate, make sure to drink some water. Whether you choose tap water,Hint sparkling water, or spring water, the effect will be the same. Water will stimulate your brain and help boost your mental performance. Always bring water with you to work, school, and pretty much everywhere, because this simple drink can have a big impact on your mind when you are trying to study and retain information.

2. It Aids Weight Loss

Yep, you read that right. Weight loss is something that a lot of us struggle with at one point or another in our lives. Water can be something that helps you lose weight, and maintain that weight loss, too. The reason for this is that water is used to remove fatty by-products from the body and flush them away. It can stimulate our metabolism and will also make us feel full for longer, therefore stopping us from snacking.

3. It Flushes Out Toxins

One of the main jobs water has in the body is to flush out toxins, fat, and bacteria to make sure we stay healthy and strong. Drinking plenty of water can help us when we are under the weather by fishing out any infections and allowing the body to heal. It also prevents us from getting a buildup of substances in the kidneys or bladder which can cause infections or stones. If you haven’t had those before, just know they are super painful.

4. It Makes Your Skin Glow

One of the great benefits of drinking water is that it will keep your skin clear and allow it to glow and stay youthful. Our skin is the biggest organ in our body and it needs to be looked after just like every other organ. Our skin is the boundary which protects our body from the outside world and as a result it can be faced with some harsh conditions, which can leave skin feeling dry and flaky. If you don’t drink enough water, your skin will stay this way and it can impact the health of your skin overall.

5. It Keeps You Regular

One of the things that we need to keep our body healthy and happy is regular bowel movements. If you struggle with your digestion and have issues with your bowel movements, you can experience a lot of cramping and bloating, which is never good for the body. To ensure that your body is able to flush away waste, you need to drink enough water to help it flow. If you don’t, you can end up with constipation (which nobody wants).

6. It Boosts Our Immune System

If you want to stay healthy and strong, and avoid those dreaded sniffles, one thing you’ll always want to do is make sure that you drink water! Our immune system is an essential part of the body and it is something that can keep us protected from all sorts of illnesses. Drinking more water can stimulate our immune system and boost its strength against the common cold and flu, amongst other ailments. The reason for this is that water carries oxygen to our cells, which keeps our systems functioning correctly, and it flushes out the bad stuff.

7. It Prevents Headaches

There is nothing worse than when you are out and about get a splitting headache which prevents you from doing the things you normally enjoy. Headaches happen when the muscles in our head spasm and tighten, and they can be debilitating if they carry on for a long period of time. The good news is that water can help to prevent headaches because it keeps us hydrated, and the main cause of headaches is dehydration.Dehydration can shrink our braintemporarily and this can cause the brain to pull away from our skull, which results in pain. If we stay hydrated we won’t have to worry about this and we can continue being able to do the things we enjoy.

8. It Prevents Cramps

As stated prior, dehydration can cause sever issues for the body, and this isn’t limited to the head. Even in our back and legs we can suffer from cramping due to lack of water, and this is why drinking enough is so important. Hydrated muscles want to move more freely and lengthen, meaning that our flexibility will increase and the chances of us falling foul to sprains and cramps is low.

9. It Regulates Our Body Temperature

Similar to the way a car works, water can act as a natural coolant and antifreeze for the body. Water can aid ourhomeostasis and ensure that the body runs at its optimum capacity through the day. Sweat is a natural cooling system for the body and this is why when we get too hot, our body secretes it. This is why we have to stay hydrated during the summer, because our body needs the ability to sweat and cool us down.

If we can drink around 8 glasses of water every single day of our lives, it will make a massive difference to our bodies overall, and will allow us to live a long and healthy life.
