Did you all watch the Super Bowl? What the heck, Pete Carroll?!
Well before dear ol’ Pete became the most hated man in Seattle, I kicked off Super Bowl Sunday with none other than a race! The first race of my NYRR 9+1 goal: The NYRR Gridiron 4 Miler.
I had 8 miles on tap for half marathon training, so I ran into Manhattan from Brooklyn (about 3.5 miles) to pick up my friend, Lindsey, and then finished it off with the 4-mile race in Central Park.
The race was football themed, of course, and everyone was rocking their team pride. The whole event was low key and well organized. We got into our corral no problem and were crossing the starting line in no time.
However, in the time it took to walk from the subway to the park, I froze my @&$ off. Ok, not literally. I need that sucker for the February Love Your Butt Challenge (have you signed up yet?), but my fingers and tootsies froze while we were waiting to start. For the first two miles, it felt like my feet were surrounded with cement blocks.
Eventually, my little toes defrosted, and I was able to enjoy the last 2 miles of the race. At mile two, the course split into a Patriots lane and a Seahawks lane. Lindsey is a big Pats fan, so we veered right and ran it home. Obviously, we’re good luck. You’re welcome, New England.
I rocked a Cowboy’s jersey of course, because, let’s be real, Dez totally caught that ball.
