Five Must Know Meal Prep Tips

We're all busy bees. We work. We workout. We take on hobbies. As much as I love food, cooking and eating, the last thing I want to do is spend hours in the kitchen everyday making all my meals.

As a NYC gal with a full time job on top of this here bloggity blog, meal prep has been my biggest time saver, so I'm here on this Wild Workout Wednesday to share my top five must-know meal prep tips with you! Let's get to prepping!

Five Must Know Meal Prep Tips
  1. Chop it up - Chopping up ingredients can be surprisingly time consuming. If you don't want to cook a full meal ahead of time, at least get all the chopping, cutting and prep work out of the way ahead of time. This includes fruits, veggies, meats - everything that needs to go from big to small.
  2. Portion it out - Make one monster salad and portion it out into 5 smaller salads for workweek lunches. Make a big bowl of trail mix and separate it into little grab-and-go snack bags or containers. Put all your smoothie ingredients together in a little bag or jar so you can just dump it in the blender. Make it easy for yourself in the morning to just grab your little portions and head out the door.
  3. Pack it up - The night before, put everything you need for the next day in a tote bag so that in the morning you can just grab the one thing that has everything. Instead of doing this everyday, I bring everything I'll need for the workweek to the office on Monday. I stash everything in our office fridge or at my desk so I can grab whatever I need whenever I need it. I actually just bring all my salad ingredients and make my salad each day at work. Since all that stuff can get heavy, I make sure to put everything in lightweight containers for easy transport. Snapware containers are my new favorite, and I have some great details on them below!
  4. Keep it simple - Don't go overboard trying to be a fancy chef. There are no Michelin Stars for at-home cooking, but have no fear, simple recipes can be just as delicious as complicated ones. Choose recipes that will take 30 minutes or less to make, or have an arsenal of recipes you've masters and simply switch up an ingredient or two to create new flavors.
  5. Love leftovers - Every week, I make one big dinner - enough to feed a family of 8. Since I'm only feeding me and Will, we enjoy the leftovers all week long. That way, when I get home from a long day at work, I can just pop dinner in the microwave. No muss. No fuss. I'm ok with eating the same thing a few days in a row. I simply switch up meals from week to week to get variety.

Having good containers are also a key part of meal prep, and recently I was introduced to a bunch of great products made by Snapware. They hosted a fun event in NYC with famous yogi, Kristin McGee: The Bend & Snapware Event. Fab name, huh?

Anywho, we were treated to a lovely yoga class (led by Kristin)...

... and were then treated to a FreshDirect-hosted breakfast in our new Snapware containers.

Kristin also shared some of her favorite meal planning tips with us, so you get some bonus tips!

It was a great way to stretch out, learn about new products and meet up with some fellow blogger friends.

They also sent me home with a Snapware Total Solution On The Go 12-Pc Plastic Value Set (perfect for food prepping - they're leak-proof, airtight, lightweight, microwave-, freezer- and dishwasher-safe!) and some bowls from their new Vintage Charm collection, which I adore!

Big thanks to Snapware, Kristin and Freshdirect for the lovely Saturday morning!

Alright, my fit and focused friends, let's see how you're getting down on Wild Workout Wednesday ( full link up rules here).
