Just a brief update from Antarctica today, as I wanted to share the news that the Scott Team, who were taking part in the Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race, have now successfully arrived at 90ºS, joining their companions at that point on the 100th anniversary of Robert Falcon Scott's arrival at the South Pole.The weather conditions shifted slightly today to enable the boys to arrive on this very important date, with sun and clear skies aiding their cause. Temperatures at the Pole are reportedly -20ºC/-4ºF, although wind chills are bringing those temps down to -40ºC/F as well.
In order to arrive, the team had to cover more than 20 nautical miles today alone, and they managed to cross the final degree in just three days, which is a very impressive feat in and of itself. I'm sure the boys are absolutely chuffed, but they seem in good spirits and happy to have reached their final goal at last. The fact that they happened to do it today, of all days, is just icing on the cake.
Congrats to both teams for their fantastic expedition. Rest up and catch a flight home as soon as you can.
