A few weeks back I floated the idea of organizing a Kilimanjaro climb by writing a post to inquire if anyone would be interested in such a venture. At the same time, I shared this idea with listeners of The Adventure Podcast as well, and have had a strong response from both readers and listeners. With that in mind, I thought I'd share an update on where things stand and invite others to share their interest if they'd potentially like to join in on the fun.
When I put out feelers to see if anyone would be interested in a Kili trek, I wasn't sure if there would be any takers. As it turns out, climbing to the "Roof of Africa" is on the bucket list for many of you as well, which means we're going to proceed with the next phase of the plan. Right now, I have accumulated a solid list of interested readers and listeners, and I've created an email group to reach out to those individuals via email very soon. The next stage of the process is to contact those who have expressed interest to find out what time of the year works best with their schedules, what their budgets are, and so on. After that, I can start the process of discussing the trek with various Kilimanjaro guides to find the one that fits our needs the best.
There are literally dozens of companies that lead treks up Kilimanjaro, but they are not all created equal. Fortunately, I know several of those companies well and have even worked with some in the past. On top of that, once word got out that we were potentially organizing a trip, I've heard from three or four other operators as well. In short, we won't have any trouble finding someone who wants to lead this group on this adventure.
For those who have already contacted me expressing interest in the trip, first off THANK YOU! You'll be hearing more from me directly very soon. If this is the first you're hearing about this little excursion, it's not too late to share your interest either. If you'd like to potentially come along for the fun, send me an email and I'll add you to our list. I'm approaching this as a "the more the merrier" situation and would love to have as many folks join us as possible.
I'll continue to post updates here on The Adventure Blog and on the podcast as well. The current plan is to aim for the trek to take place sometime in 2020, but we'll hopefully have a better idea of exactly when, and with whom, very soon.
More to follow shortly.
