People with ADD are always reporting to me, that they simply can not focus on the task at hand, or that they are always starting things and never finishing them.
People with ADHD are always reporting that they can focus and stay on task if they are doing something that they are truly interested in doing, but at those times only.
For example, I had both ADD and ADHD and yet I went on to graduate from University. How? I had the choice, while there, to focus my energies on the two things I love most Theater and Psychology, thereby retaining interest even over a five-year period.
There are many activities available, in fact there are myriad possibilities when it comes to finding activities that have the potential to act as both “distractions”, “focuses”, and as great fun for the patient afflicted with either of these conditions, to take part in.
I will give one specific example, for Israeli locals, of a friend of mine who runs ceramic workshops. Ceramic work is great fun. Not only is it tactile (a distraction), not only does it allow for creativity (which is generally at the forefront with people afflicted by both ADD and ADHD) but it provides an end result, that one can hold in their hands, all in a relatively short period of time.
My friend Sara Shuraki, a local here in Jerusalem offers ceramic workshops. And while these workshops are certainly available around the world, I will use her as my example as she offers the only workshop that I am personally familiar with. Sara is incredibly creative, and works as an artist, but, again, she also runs workshops in the hopes of inspiring, or “waking up” the creativity in individuals. This is especially important when it comes to directing or redirecting those with ADD and/or ADHD.
Sara offers:
♦ Year-round workshops for all ages as well as one-time sessions
♦ Made-to-order unique interior designs for the kitchen, living room,
bathroom, etc.
♦ Sales of unique ceramic works created in the studio
♦ Original souvenirs for special occasions
♦ Artistic vases–a work of art, made in a special way
♦ Fast and safe shipping to outside of Israel is available.

Look, the long and the short of it is, that if you can find something that stimulates you or your child, whomever is the one with the condition, then you can begin your slow walk sown the road to recovery. Blending creativity, which again, is so commonly connected with Attention Deficit Disorders, with a tangible result, in a reasonably short period of time, which is key!
Please, if you need any more suggestions about creative ideas towards which you can redirect attention spans or energies, feel free to leave me messages here, or email me at:
