One of the great joys of travel is being able to share the experience with friends and family. A great trip can create memories to last a lifetime, sparking conversations for years to come. But, it isn't always easy to assemble a group of people to join us on our explorations of the planet, and sometimes we find ourselves going it alone. As it turns out however, traveling solo isn't necessarily a bad thing and it is still possible to make the best of the situation. To that end, Men's Journal has assembled a list of the best destinations on the planet for solo travelers, offering up some truly enticing options for those who don't mind hitting the road on their own.

MJ is quick to point out that while traveling alone can be a bit lonely from time to time, there is also a certain freedom that comes with it too. With out others tagging along, we can choose when and where we ant to go, how long we want to be away, and exactly what activities we want to do. We can also travel at our own pace, make side trips without consulting anyone else, and come and go as we please from hotels, campsites, and hostels. Solo travel is also a good time to reconnect with yourself and ponder your own goals, dreams, and aspirations. In short, you'll have complete control over what you see and do, and there is a certain libration that comes with that.

So where exactly does Men's Journal recommend solo travelers go? The list includes ten entires, with some really interesting places making the cut, both from the U.S. and abroad. For instance, the South Coast of Sri Lanka makes the cut thanks to its low-key and off-the-beaten path vibe. Manitoba, Canada gets a nod for being more adventurous and providing the chance to spot polar bears in the wild in the town of Churchill. Head to Namibia in Africa for a land of contrasts and extremes, or visit the southern coast of Oregon for a blend of adventure that includes hiking, kayaking, and enjoying some great local food and accommodations.

I'll save the rest of the list for you to discover for yourself, suffice as to say that each location has some great things to offer the solo traveler. Whether you're looking for a little quiet time to yourself or you want to push your own boundaries, there is something for everyone here. Start your solo journey by clicking here.
