Wine Wednesday Wente Vineyards

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

There is nothing that I love more than when the wine fairy comes and delivers 6 bottles of wine. It’s really the FedEx guy and we play the game of who’s home to sign for this package. When I finally arranged to pick up my wine at the local FedEx Office I was beyond excited. Seriously. 6 bottles of really great wine.

Wente was nice enough to send me a great package that featured 6  wines and a great selection of recipes from America’s Test Kitchen. I wanted to make every single thing listed. But the wine was the star of the show! My favorites were the Sauvignon Blanc (that I cooked with and enjoyed while cooking ;)) and the Charles Wetmore Cabernet Sauvignon was fantastic.

  • Wente Vineyards 2013 Morning Fog Chardonnay (SRP: $15.00)
  • Wente Vineyards 2012 Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP: $18.00)
  • Wente Vineyards 2013 Louis Mel Sauvignon Blanc (SRP: $15.00)
  • Wente Vineyards 2011 Sandstone Merlot (SRP: $18.00)
  • Wente Vineyards 2012 Charles Wetmore Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP: $30.00)
  • Wente Vineyards 2012 Riverbank Riesling (SRP: $15.00)

I knew I would love the Charles Wetmore Cabernet , it’s rich with notes of cherry and chocolate. You can taste the oak with just a hint of vanilla. $30 is more than I spend for an everyday wine but this would be delicious with your Christmas dinner.

The Louis Mel Sauvignon Blanc is a really great California style, aged in stainless steal with notes of melon, grass and lime. It is such a perfect white wine for spicy foods. We loved it with a spicy Turkey Southwestern Corn Chowder. Both the wine and the soup were gone pretty quickly. And at $15 (I have also seen it on sale for less) this is a great everyday bottle.

I am looking forward to making my way through the remaining 3 bottles over the Holidays.
