What do you get when you combine a sportscaster and wine industry veteran? A wine called The Calling. Made by Jim Nantz and Peter Deutsch. I tried the Cabernet Sauvignon out of the Russian River Valley. This cab was full bodied with notes of cherry and spice. What you think of with California cab.
The Chardonnay (which is not my favorite wine ever) was surprisingly good. Not too oaky with notes of lemon, melon and a nice acidity. This was so delicious with smoked salmon. Even my inlaws commented on how nicely it paired.
These wines retail for around $35 and that’s normally more than I would spend for wine but they were a great sample and it was the holidays! I spend a bit more on wine when I am entertaining.
