It seems like mother nature just flipped the switch to fall for a day or two. Sunday was a bit cool but Monday was down right fall like at only 60 degrees. Pretty cold for early September in Minnesota.
But it was a nice break. We had about a week and half of crazy humid and hot days so that 60 degrees felt a bit shocking. It also felt like a reason to break out a bottle of red wine. Red definitely fell by the side this summer of in favor of cocktails, beer and whites but this was the perfect juicy, cassis, spicy and heavy red to remind me just what I love about red.
This Cliff Creek Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon was perfect with the Tuscan Chicken and Beans (recipe next week) that I had cooking away in the crockpot. We sat in our dining room with the windows wide open, smelling the neighbors pit fire and enjoyed the last few moments of the long weekend. As much as I love summer I am ready for fall: football, beers, red wine and lazy evenings outside around a fire. Sigh. Let’s hope it’s a nice long fall and it doesn’t snow in October.
At around $20 this is a pretty good cabernet, I tend to love that style from Oregon and this was really true to type. Part of our Swirl Wine Club this is a one that I would buy again. Especially on a cool fall day.
