Wine Wednesday Cannon River Winery

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

Saturday morning I headed on a little road trip with our friends Bridget and Ben for a stop at the Cannon River Winery. Once a year the open up their vineyards (their tasting room is downtown Cannon Falls) for customers to come picnic, tour, learn all about the wine and see their beautiful barn structure that is over 150 years old.

Great historical fact that this barn was originally on the property of the key official in getting the Volstead Act passed (Prohibition!). I love the irony of a barn that was originally owned my someone who was so anti drinking now being at a winery. Ah how things come full circle!

We picnicked, enjoyed delicious wine and were quite sweaty. It was about 90 with crazy humidity. As much as people think Minnesota is always cold we have one of the widest temperatures swings! From -30 air temps up to the high 90’s even low 100’s. There are very few places that have that much of a range. It’s probably why weather is often a hot topic here.

I LOVE how the grapes were just starting to go into veraison (when they turn from green to purple), I may blow that photo up and frame it.
