Travel Thursday: Omaha (Part 1)

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

The great people at Visit Omaha invited me and a guest to check out Omaha for a foodie filled weekend. Scott came with me last year and has about a million things going on with work right now so he opted out and my friend Stacey came. We turned it into a Girls Weekend and had a blast.

We drove down early Friday morning, stopping at a few random wineries in Iowa along the way and arriving into Omaha mid afternoon. After getting checked into our hotel (the Aksarben Suites and it’s Nebraska spelled backwards by the way, we thought it was some famous historical figure) we headed to the Benson neighborhood for dinner and beer. Check out Benson Brewing and Infusion. Both have great beers but Infusion has a vanilla bean blonde that is amazing. They only see Growlers or I would have bought many many bottles.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early to head to our Culinary Walking Tour of Omaha and it was a blast! About 2 miles of walking through the Old Market area and closer to downtown and stopping at restaurants on the way.

We stopped at:

M’s Pub for Thai Chicken Lavosh

Omaha Tap House Sliders (and a bloody mary)

Heritage for a filet tournedo that was downright amazing

Wilson and Washburn (a f0rmer brother in the 1800’s)

The Tea Smith (fine teas)

and a cute little bakery, Bliss, for mini cupcakes (they had cream cheese so I couldn’t eat them but Stacey said it was tasty)

If you are ever in Omaha for a weekend check out the Walking Culinary Tour. History, fun, food and you meet really great people! Part 2 coming next Thursday! Visit Omaha was kind enough to provide the hotel, culinary tour tickets and tickets to Crush. Thank you
