Travel Thursday Lanesboro MN

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

We spent our second anniversary in Lanesboro, MN. A very picturesque town that is known as the bed and breakfast capital of Minnesota. For a town with a population under 900 they have 10+ B&B’s in the area. Pretty crazy! You wander the streets and admire all the old houses. So much fun.

Where to stay in Lanesboro:

We stayed at O’Leary’s B&B, a few minute walk from the main street. In a charming neighborhood with another B&B right across the street. Our rate was $95 a night, we got a deal because they weren’t serving breakfast over the weekend. But that was no big deal to us, we were usually up and about doing activities in the morning anyway. An important note about booking, most places require 2 nights and they book up weeks if not months in advance. This town is popular!

The porch was our preferred spot to  lounge on. Nice comfy chairs and a great spot to have a beer.

I think a winter weekend is in order there and I would love to stay in the historic Scanlan House B&B. Just look how cute this place is! It doesn’t hurt that they have tons of cross country and snowmobile trails too.

From our B&B it was about a 5 minute walk to the main area of town, filled with cute shops and restaurants. All of the buildings were at least 100 years old. They had the story of each building posted in the window. So darn charming.

For our dinner on Friday night we opted for The Old Town Hall restaurant. They had a very limited menu but they focused on things they did really well. I appreciate that, it is much better to have a selection of a few great things than an overwhelming menu. We shared a steak with fresh vegetables, mashed potatoes and a steak with a wild mushroom butter. Seriously delicious.

Day 2 involved us going golfing at the Lanesboro Golf Course, we had a blast golfing but the course wasn’t very well maintained. In spite of that we had a blast. I was actually hitting the ball much better than usual and the fact that it was $14 dollars a person to golf was pretty nice. After our very humid morning golf session we drove about 30 minutes to get to the Niagara Cave in Harmony, MN. This was a blast. I had never spent much time in a cave before (has anyone?) and you end up going 200 feet below to a very chilly 48 degrees. Thank goodness for layers! We had a great tour guide and it was a nice reintroduction to geology… learning all about stalactites and stalagmites. How’s that for 5th grade science!
