I was asked to make an Italian-themed cake some time ago for a birthday girl who was lucky enough to have been gifted a trip to the beautiful country. I struggled with ideas at first, not knowing how to translate the garish red – green – white of the flag into something feminine.
Flowers. Of course.
I hand-painted my signature black swirls on the top tier to give it some interesting detail, and made the Colosseum from regular plastic icing, tinted with ivory gel color and painted with edible gold. You can see more cakes here: Pop (t)art Cakes
