Thursday Thoughts: Mother’s Day

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Uncommon Goods. I received an item of my choice to review.

This post is going to be a bit heavy. If that’s not your thing, feel free to skip it! This isn’t one of  those look at all the great gifts you can purchase for the Mom’s in your life. We all know that Mother’s Day is on Sunday in the U.S. And it’s all over TV, radio, magazines and social media. Which is wonderful if you have positive feelings about it. I do not. In fact, I hate this time year. So on Sunday when others are celebrating this day I will be taking a bit of a social media and technology hiatus. There is no need to be surrounded by it. My day will be spent doing projects around the house, working out, reading and doing other things that make me happy.

I’ve talked about my own Mom a few times and I will leave it at it’s a complicated relationship. No details or taking about the story behind it, she is still my Mom and I love her.And knowing that we will never have a family of our own (due to a medical condition my husband has) it’s also incredibly painful for me. I’ve got a few key people to lean on but for the most part I keep this to myself. By making changes to my social circle, choosing which activities to attend and focusing on positive things I manage it. But that doesn’t make that day any easier.

Uncommon Goods reached out to me about a doing a Mother’s Day post and I was hesitant to say yes. I don’t have a good story or warm fuzzy feelings about it. But that’s ok. That is my reality and I know there are many others out there that are experiencing similar feelings. So instead of being all sad panda about it I choose something for myself. Something to remind me of how strong I am. And while I hope that you have a wonderful day and celebrating the best way for you, know that I will be doing what’s best for me. While I don’t recommend avoidance on a regular basis sometimes it’s the right thing to do.

Since I love rings I choose an aquamarine branch ring, very unique and something I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on. Everytime I wear it I look down and think of strength and how a piece that is so different really fits me. It is a really rough cut piece, the stone is unpolished, the ring itself is like a branch. But it’s unique and that’s exactly what I wanted.
