Last night I was having a discussion with a Twitter friend about my annoyance with every “magic” sales pitch out there. Things like It Works, vitamins, supplements, beauty potions etc. They make these wild promises of a flat belly, long hair, beautiful skin, taking years off your face, toning your arms (I HATE the word tone). Let’s be real for a few minutes…
Those things are never going to work. Ever.
Do you know what does work? Healthy eating and hard work in the gym. Period. Yes, there are vitamins, supplements and things like protein powder and pre-workout drinks that I will take. But I have never thought those were a magic cure. In fact I know there is no magic cure. While I am in shape and am pretty healthy there are weeks when you can see my abs and weeks when you cant. I eat things like chips, pizza and sugar occasionally and I may even skip a workout because I am tired, sore or just don’t feel like it. But in my 15+ years of working out I know that if I want strong muscles, defined abs, and glowing skin I need to fill my body with lean protein, fruits & vegetables and whole grain complex carbs. And while I know this it doesn’t always happen. The U.S. spend billions of dollars on these wraps, pills and potions. If that money went to healthy eating, working out and just overall health initiatives the world might be a healthier place.
I will step off my soapbox this morning but just know when you see a Facebook friend touting magic, or a “before and after” image on Instagram or a tweet about the newest fat busting technology know that the old standby of healthy eating and working out will give you much better long term results. Yes it may take longer but your body will thank you.
