The Reason I Dressed
It was Saturday last week and we spent the ENTIRE DAY INSIDE CLEANING. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and there we were – washing floors, doing laundry and tidying. I was so sad, but I guess this comes with the territory when you’re married to an obsessive compulsive Italian man who LOVES cleaning! I wrote a whole post about how my man loves to clean, and in general how Italians are obsessed with having spotless homes.
At some point, I couldn’t take it anymore and I begged him to go out for a walk in the evening. Both my son and I are outdoors creatures. Honestly, if I don’t get out once a day when the sun is still out I go a little out of my mind. It just seems like such a waste of a beautiful day. The problem is when EVERYDAY is a beautiful day, when is the housework getting done? Never. So I agreed to clean and in return got the evening out.
We went to the playground, took a walk in Modena’s city centre under the porticos and strolled through the Piazza where there was an antique market happening. We ended up at a new “crescentine” place, and then went for ice cream. I’m putting a post together to talk about what “crescentine” are and I’ll also be reviewing where we went this week (or next!).
What I Wore
I really like the outfit that I pulled together for our walk!! Everything I wore I’ve had for a long time, but was inspired by pinterest to do things a little differently….I wore high, chunky heeled Nine West sandals with…..you guessed it…SOCKS! I was mostly inspired by this pin from my “socks with sandals” trend board.
I wore a delicately woven silk and cotton peach sweater by the brand Rubber Doll, bought 7 or 8 years ago. I’ve only worn this sweater a handful of times and I’m not sure why, because I really like it! As part of my new pledge to buy nothing and value what I already own, I’m forcing myself to creatively re-style what I have.
I paired the sweater with wide leg, faded denim jeans (Zara TRF), a coral leather bag by the brand The Sak and a navy Asos blazer. My bracelet is by the Paris, France brand Reminiscence, and next week I’ll be giving away a fantastic pair of earrings by them….so keep your eyes open!!!
The Thing About Blogging
Can I be honest for a moment….as awkward as it sometimes is to take “fashion blogger” photos while we’re out and about, I’m actually loving it! Because of the blog I’ve gathered a great collection of photos of my son and I together in true “street style” fashion.
My husband isn’t really the photography type, and unless I specifically ASK him to take my picture in any given situation, he usually doesn’t. But the blog has given us both the perfect excuse to capture each moment. And if you remember, way back when at New Year’s, my theme for 2014 is CAPTURE!
Dear ladies, I encourage you to start asking your respective partners to take a few more photos of you while you are out and about.
Use my blog as an excuse!!
I’m planning a whole series of “Real Mom Style Features” this summer featuring some of my favourite stylish mom bloggers from around the world, but I want to open this up to non-bloggers as well!
So there you go, now you have a great excuse (even if you don’t have a blog) to turn around every now and then and say “Can you take our picture, we look adorable!”
