The Body Shop Chocomania Body LotionI know very few people who don’t like chocolate. Honestly, how can you not?! Although I’ve never really considered a chocolatey body lotion. Why? Possibly because you get sick of chocolate quite quickly. The first few bites is absolutely divine and it’s the thing you’ve been craving, but after a few bites (or bars…) there’s nothing worse than the taste and smell of chocolate. That sickly feeling of over-indulgence, a sugar and dairy-filled state, and then naturally an onslaught of guilt and queasiness. So the thought of a chocolate body lotion has never been one that has occurred to me. I’ve always stuck to fruitier and fresher smells, but intrigue took over when The Body Shop brought out their Chocomania range. I couldn’t wait to give it a sniff and a trial!

The strangest thing about this body lotion, and actually the entire range, is that it really does smell like chocolate. It smells good enough to eat (but please don’t)! I applied some of the pale brown body lotion to my hands and it felt very smooth and soft. It has the consistency or a semi-thick cream; it will move when wet instead of staying in a lump like a body butter. The Chocomania body lotion dried quickly and didn’t leave a sticky feeling on my hands – the only similarity to chocolate is the smell, and it really did smell like I’d dipped my hands in chocolate. The sweet smell lasted and lasted.

After an hour I was completely fed up with the smell. It was sweet and sickly, and the more I smelt it the less it smelt like chocolate. Even when applying a fresh squirt of the body lotion didn’t refresh the sickly smell. The odd thing is that when I smell it now it doesn’t smell like chocolate at all. It really is like the first sniff is the most chocolatey smell you’ll get, and I’m not completely sure why this is. I even went into The Body Shop on another day to get some of the Chocomania range for my chocoholic friend but for some reason it just didn’t smell very nice any more – just like when you actually have too much chocolate to eat and the smell of more chocolate is revolting and off-putting, this range sadly has the same effect.

As a body lotion it’s nice and refreshing for the skin, but not so much smell-wise. It’s not the most moisturising of creams but it spreads very well and you only need a little bit of the cream as a little does go a long way. It’s not greasy or shiny but I probably won’t use it on my face as I have oily skin and the body lotion is a little heavy. There are far nicer body lotions by The Body Shop though, so save your £8 and buy another!
