T.G.I. Friday’s Au Gratin Potatoes

Thinking of making something good this weekend. If this is right than you might want to think of making Au Gratin Potatoes. Not only is it juicy and delicious it is easy and simple to make. Anyone can make this Au Gratin Potatoes recipe and its a prefect dish for veg lovers. Its the right time to impress your loved ones with this simple recipe this weekend. This Au Gratin Potatoes recipe  will leave and ever lasting impression and is a dish that can also be enjoyed on its own as well as with any meal (e.g. your healthy lunch meal), goes well with any type of salad.

Ingredients:

  • 4 Large baking potatoes
  • 3 Cups Bechamel sauce (see following recipe)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 3/4 cup grated Mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Colby cheese
Directions:
  1. Bake potatoes in oven at 400 degrees until completely cooked.
  2. Cool for 30 minutes at room temperature, then slice into 1/2″ thick rounds.
  3. Mix together the Bechamel sauce, salt and white pepper.
  4. Add remaining ingredients.
  5. Fold in potatoes.
  6. Place mixture in covered baking dish in a 300F oven for 1 hour, or until potatoes are hot all the way through.
  7. Remove the cover and allow potatoes to brown.

Bechamel Sauce:

  • 1 quart half & half
  • 2 ounces flour
  • 2 ounces clarified butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
  1. In a saucepan, combine the flour and butter.
  2. Cook over a low flame, for about 15 minutes until the mixture begins to bubble.
  3. Stir frequently so the roux does not color.
  4. Gradually add the half & half, stirring out the lumps as it thickens.
  5. After the entire amount of half & half has been added, cook for 45 minutes over a low flame, stirring occasionally to keep the mixture from sticking to the saucepan.
  6. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
