Adventure Sports Camp for KidsAcademy for Mountaineering and Adventure Sports is organising an adventure sports training camp From April 4 to 8. The camp will be held at Veli government youth hostel and students coming under the age group of 12 to 16 years can participate. Participants will be introduced to mountaineering, rock climbing, trekking, water sports, rappelling, river crossing, coastal trekking, nature study, jungle camping, para gliding, yoga, meditation, martial arts, leadership training programs, first aid training, swimming, life saving skills and disaster management training. The camp will start on the April 3 and conclude on May 11. The program titled My Summer World will focus on the creative talents of the participants rather than imparting any theoretical knowledge. The camp will include a lot of innovative activities for the children. The intake will be limited to 60 children. There will be two batches for children coming under the age group of 5 to 10 and 11 to 16. 30 children will be admitted to each category. Experts from India and abroad will be handling various sessions at the camp.There will be a film and video workshop in which an eminent filmmaker and editor will teach the children the different tricks of making a video films. They will have to bring a digital camera with them. They will learn the basics of film making and also make a short film by themselves. The movie will be screened at the summer festival at the end of the camp.Together with the resource persons from a leading Malayalam daily, the kids will learn the several tasks involved in newspaper production. They will learn finding and writing reports and articles, making photographs, editing and creating a newspaper. The workshop will be for two days and at the end of it, they will visit the printing facility of a daily in the city.The participants will get an opportunity to create a digital ‘soundscape’ of the city. Sounds from prominent locations of the city will be digitally captured by the children and this soundscape will be presented together with a 360 degree image of the city. This particular workshop will be offered to the age group of 11 to 16.Prakash Moorthy, eminent animator and faculty of the National School of Design will teach the children the tricks and methods to translate their ideas into animated images. Famous Italian puppeteer Sara will be the resource person for this two-day puppetry workshop. She will take the kids to the wonderful world of puppetry and help them to create their own puppets. Martina will offer the children a one-day trip to the world of German cooking. They get to know the different aspects of German foods and will be given the freedom to use the centre’s Café Berlin to cook the newly-learned German dishes. Niemann and her fried Mary will conduct a two-day workshop to educate the children on how to deal with pets, mainly dogs. The participating children will get the opportunity to learn the theory and practical part of pet care with the help of live pets. All the activities will be accompanied by simple and interesting lessons in German language.
