Starting a Garden

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

I would not describe myself as being outdoorsy or having a green thumb but now that we are on 2.5+ acres we have a lot of space and I feel up to the challenge of a garden. We knew we wouldn’t have time for a full garden this year but at least wanted a few pots of veggies and herbs.

We found a few pots on clearance, got a few for a house warming gift and picked up some potting soil. We were ready to go! We used some traditional seed packets and some seed balls.

Nourishmat just finished their Kickstarter (and raised enough money!!) to get their business started. So what are they all about? It’s a grow-your-own garden mat that is like paint-by-numbers for gardening. You roll the mat out on your garden soil, push in the seedballs (seeds and all-natural fertilizers), and hook it up to the hose.  Their goal is to empower consumers to become producers.

Seedballs are a mixture of clay, earth worm castings, chili powder to keep away pests, and non-GMO seeds.

I love this idea! It makes gardening much easier for those non outdoorsy types like me! We planted arugula, radish and cilantro with the seed balls and a few others with traditional seeds. The seed balls are winning, they were the first to sprout and look the healthiest so far.
