Rockmelon? Fresh Herbs + Inspiration

By Slimshoppin @slimshoppin

Over the weekend we were grocery shopping for my son Mark’s 15th birthday dinner. His birthday was yesterday – and he wanted tacos for dinner. My 3 kids – even though they are older STILL love grocery shopping with me, which is very sweet. Rolling through the fruit and veggie aisles there was a big crate with a sign that said ‘ROCKMELONS’ 2 for $4.00. I was thinking – what the heck is a rock melon? I was fantasizing that it was some hybrid of a cantaloupe with a honeydew melon or something. They were big, and smelled very sweet – so into my cart they went.

I got home and looked up what a rock melon was – it’s a fricken cantaloupe! Ha!!!! I’ve never heard it called that in the Chicago area, and I asked a few friends of mine at work who come from other parts of the United States and they hadn’t heard them called that either.

So if you ever see these words – it’s a cantaloupe!

Cantaloupe (also canteloupe, cantaloup, mushmelon, muskmelon, rockmelon, sweet melon, Persian melon, spanspek (South Africa)

It was still good, I had some with my breakfast this morning. I told my twin sister the story and she had to run errands for work and found this at Sam’s club and texted me the picture:

lemondrop melon!

Lemondrop melons?! Never heard of them either, but I am going to be on the lookout for them. You can read more about them HERE.

And – next I have to give a big shout out to my co-worker Tim – I came into work last week and a paper bag with my name on it was sitting on my desk. I looked inside and what did I see? Fresh herbs!!!!

It was fresh chives, purple basil, mint and rosemary. I used all of them this week. I used the rosemary in potatoes, I made lemon and chive chicken one night, used the purple basil in my homemade marinara sauce and used the mint in my morning smoothie. If I had the rest of the ingredients I would have used the mint in this smoothie by my blogger friend Kristina at Fully Raw Kristina

Doesn’t that sound so good?

And I’ve recently found this girl online who has lost 120 pounds – I hope that she will do a success story interview but in the meantime – here is her before and after photos!

Check out her transformation story on You Tube HERE

And I’d like to give my twin sis a big shout out too, she’s into month 2 of INSANITY and doing great! Keep it up Biz – you are doing great!

Have you heard of rockmelons – who inspires you??
