Review/Swatches: Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Liquid Lip Potion – All Shades!

By Beautifulbuns

Forgive me for the slight hiatus guys – I’ve been so insanely crazy busy I’ve only been sleeping 3-4 hours a day.  I have turned a vague shade of chalk fray, but hey, isn’t that what makeup is for? Heh. And you know what the weirdest (or ironic) thing is? I never used to fancy any lip products during my years working as a magazine editor. Yes, I used to terrorise the world by walking around with barely any eyeliner, a slight dabbing of blush and a faint, barely-discernible layer of pink shimmery lip gloss.  Gasp. The horror!

Thankfully these days, I’ve seen the light (and become much more vain), and am dutifully applying a full coat of face paint (not piling it on, of course), and lip products have become my must-have. Here’s one that’s currently residing in my makeup pouch at the moment.

I say…

The Packaging:It’s in the iconic dark navy blue Estee Lauder angular tube style with a twist-open cap that’s attached to the applicator. Now the sponge tip is soft, tapered at the end for precise application around the edges, and it also has a slight curvature – kinda like a little scoop so that it can pick up some product. However, I find that I use the other convex side to apply the lip product more (maybe it’s just me hurhurhur). I also like the fact that there’s a window opening in the tube so that you can see the color of the product.

The Extras: This contains a unique Time Release Encapsulated Moisture Complex with Hyaluronic Acid to boost your lips’ ability to attract, capture and seal n continuous hydration. The Complex also contains a nourishing cocktail of oils – avocado oil, jojoba oil and sunflower oil.

The Scent: There’s a very faint scent that I can’t quite pinpoint – vaguely floral and very mild. It’s said to be (and I quote)” “an intoxicating scent of red currant, mandarin orange and apple blossom”. Hmm.. I can’t quite smell that out, but well, at least it’s pleasant and not overwhelming.

The Texture: It’s really creamy and yet smooth – the visual I get is kinda like a thousand pigmented finely textured color grains packed into this tube. The color is intense and vibrant, and one layer is all you need to get the color you want (and see in the tube).

The Finish:  It sets pretty quickly so there really isn’t much bleeding onto the teeth. It’s mostly matte with a slight tinge of gloss – the shine level isn’t particularly high, but what I like is that when you rub /smack your lips together, they kinda glide against each other and don’t feel too dry (of course, over several hours, they will gradually get drier). It does not boost the lips’ hydration level by much though, so if you’re having one of those Dry Lippie Days, slather on some vaseline or lip balm prior to applying this.

The Verdict: Besides the fact that it’s got super rich and pigmented color payoff, I also love the fact that this leaves a tint on the lips even after eating and drinking. The lips are left looking rosy – do note that those with drier lips might experience some slight flaking as well as color sinking into the lips. It’s also removed rather easily (sorry CLIO, I love your color intensity but you can be a leeetle bitty tough to remove). Overall, it’s a really decent lip product that I’d recommend to those looking for a liquid lipstick/lacquer.
