Review: Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Purifying Gel

By Beautifulbuns

Some girls look forward to removing their -ahem- shelf supports at the end of a long day, while I look foward to removing the layer of gunk + melted makeup on my face. Seriously guys, you’ve heard of hangry (hungry + angry)? Then meet me, Grampy (grumpy + angry) – no? Humpy? Hot and grumpy? Ok fine, it’s not coming off as intimidating as I want it, but you get the gist – never get in my way of heading to wash up after a long day – I might turn as green as this Vichy bottle hurhurhur.

I Say…

The Packaging: It’s a tall, rather sturdy bottle with a click-lock pump – just turn it 90 degrees to lock/unlock.

The Scent: There’s a refreshing cucumber (?) scent that I like – nothing too artificial and smells good enough to perk me up at the end of the day without being too much of a cheerleader perk-me-up.

The Texture: A lightweight gel that foams and froths up very easily. It leaves the skin feeling hydrated and doesn’t have that stripped-dry taut feeling.

The Verdict: Upon closure inspection of the label, this product is said to have a “peeling effect”, but the skin itself doesn’t see any obvious peeling though. Even though my skin doesn’t feel dry/taut immediately after cleansing, but I do notice it being slightly drier/less oily than normal (which means when I’m using other cleansers). Since my oily-combi skin is dry beneath the surface, but is being compensated for by the overproduction of sebum, the removal of the oils is actually less beneficial. This means that my skin condition has deteriorated (drier, looks duller, more prone to breakouts), and subsequently, more frequent episodes of breakouts than usual, which I attribute to the natural oils being stripped off more than usual.  On the bright side, this product really does deeply cleanse your skin, so I’d recommend this for those with outright oily skin types (instead of oily-combi types).
