Review: Panasonic Facial Cool Putter EH-SQ10

I know that I’m supposed to review this as part of my Singapore Blog Awards requirements, but this couldn’t have come at a better time. The heatwave recently is amayzingly and ridonkulously hot – I’m surprised I haven’t spontaneously combusted as yet, or melted into a quivering pile of mush (no wait, that’s me when I met Godfrey Gao heh).

Anyhoos, as much as I try to depend on ice cubes, chilled water, a cold shower, the AC and the fan to calm my frazzled and overheated self down, one of the biggest repercussions during a sudden surge in temperature is always a breakout. These days, I find myself peering anxiously into the mirror for any telltale signs of a bump, and you know what, thankfully they’ve been kept at bay with this gadget! (disclaimer: This includes the consistent usage of skincare products, sufficient hydration and eating healthy yo)

The box may seem rather large but it contains just a minimal number of items – the Cool Putter, the power supply plug and wire as well as the instruction manual.
I know this may sound geeky and nerdy, but you know what’s always a boon? A 3-pin plug so that I don’t have to panic and start digging around my room for a 2-pin plug adaptor.

Now the Cool Putter is a simple tube-like gadget that has curved corners and fit comfortably into a lady’s palm.

An idiot-proof, fuss-free method of usage – really, it can’t get any easier than this. All you have to do is flick the switch on to 1 to switch it on.
The plate of the Cool Putter is very finely textured – kinda finely grained/milled but is non-abrasive on the skin.
It measures about 5cm across and has a tapered tip for navigating the harder-to-reach portions of the face, such as the corners of your nose (and in my case, I sometimes use it on the undereye area to depuff the bags).
I would have liked this a lot more if it were a rechargeable gadget, but unfortunately, this requires you to be plugged in (aka wired up to the power source) to operate it. On the bright side, the power supply is plugged into the end of the Cool Putter and thus does not get into your way and tangle you up.

How To Use It: Now this gadget was designed to help cool the face down as well as decompress it (aka take away the puffiness after an all-nighter drinking and shenanigans). Simply plug in the Cool Putter, switch it on, wait about 10-30 seconds for the plate to cool down to a very comfortable cool temperature (now the manual says it could go as low as 15 degrees). Simply pat the plate gently on your face from the inside to out (cheeks outwards to the ears etc) and go “ahhhhh” as you feel the sizzling heat on your meat fizzle away. Well, that’s what I do anyway hah. Make sure that you apply it evenly – half face only looks cool

The Effects: To a certain extent, yes my face does feel less bloated and look less puffy. I’d use this simply more for the instant gratification – sure I could head over to the freezer and dig out some ice cube s, but cold burns and dripping streams of water are absolutely not cute (and defo messy!). This helps to cool the skin down immediately and take away the red flush and splotchiness, and also help to temporarily minimise those pores that were opened up by the natural effects of heat. This may just be me, but it’s all about physics and some general knowledge – once the pores are closed (or at least shrunken slightly) by the cold, the possibility of dirt and grime getting in is much lesser, thus leading to a lower possibility of a breakout.

Beauty Tip! Right, so this is probably not endorsed by aestheticians or Panasonic, but here’s a super secret way I use it. I absolutely cannot resist squeezing those “ripe” pimples I have (yes again, totally not recommended). The worst part? I always have a tendency to do it before heading out for the day. Alas itchy rebel fingers, why do you not listen to the rational brain? Anyhoos. When I’ve extracted the head / removed the pus, there’s always that reddish mountain of a bump (which may or may not be oozing). What I do is to slather on some blemish treatment cream and then gently dab this over the bump to help calm it down and subside in size – voila, no more Rudolph bump! :D

The Verdict: This is a pretty funsy gadget to try out for those who often suffer from breakouts or have a higher body temperature than others (yes, this is a real issue!). Although it’s pretty much uni-purpose (vs the usual multi-purpose gadgets such as this Hair Straightener/curler from Panasonic), it can come in useful in our sweltering all-year round temperatures.
