The Packaging: A chubby stick measuring 8.5cm tall and about 2.7cm wide. It’s wide enough to give a relatively firm grip while you are using it on your face.
The Scent: Nil.
The Texture/Coverage: Smooth enough to glide across the face without much pull. Although it’s rather pigmented (enough to cover most blemishes and even dark eye circles), and gives good coverage, it’s surprisingly lightweight. It settles into a slight powdery finish with a slight glow. The overall finish was a natural one (i.e. doesn’t look like you’ve got tonnes of foundation on).
The Oil Control: Medium – I started getting “shiny face” comments after about 4 hours (aka mid-day). It wasn’t a super kwali face thing though – just shiny enough to warrant a gentle blotting with a tissue sheet.
The Verdict: I’m pleasantly surprised by this – I was expecting a heavyduty strong coverage, but this gave me a natural medium coverage – i.e. where you can try to fake a non-beauty expert into thinking you’ve got naturally not-too-bad skin. Note that this doesn’t give those super awesome finishes where you can’t even see a pore – some pores can still be seen, but it’s a believable coverage. It goes on relatively matte, but after a few hours, my sebum glands start kicking in, and the face starts getting slightly shiny. It gives medium wear time, and doesn’t oxidise / get patchy. Now in terms of application, I guess the easiest way is to just use the stick directly on the face, and then blend it in. Those who have levelled up can try using a foundation brush or a sponge to blend it in. At $72, I’m pretty ok with the price tag – it’s buildable on the skin, gives decent coverage, is convenient to carry around for touch-ups / on vacations so you don’t end up breaking that glass bottle or have leaking foundation, doubles up as a decent concealer, and comes in a wide range of colours to cater to most skin tones.
