Review: Laneige Powder Fit Cushion

By Beautifulbuns

Although Riri sings “Shine Bright Like A Diamond” like it’s a good thing, it doesn’t really apply to me in daily life when it comes to my base products (foundation/bb cushions).Don’t get me wrong – I love that hydrated, moist, dewy finish, but it has to be at strategic locations of the face, or else you’ll look like the moon that got itself glazed by accident in a Krispy Kreme factory. Singapore’s humidity and my naturally overactive sebum glands don’t do much to stop my  inner kwali-ness from coming out. I’ve tried Laneige’s Pore Control BB cushion as well as their Anti Ageing cushion which both still feature still a hint of dewiness. New from the brand is this Powder Fit Cushion – its first “matte finish” cushion, so yassss it’s time to try it out.

The little touches: Even the casing has a matte frosted finish, perhaps to signify the matte finish of the product?

Using Shade 21 – here you can see the dark eye circles peeping out from beneath the layer of Powder Fit Cushion

I say…

The Packaging: Your usual BB cushion compact casing with the airlock tray that multi tasks as a puff holder, an inbuilt mirror, and a removable refill. This differs from the other of Laneige’s BB cushion family is its matte/frosted surface – the rest are glossy shiny. Now, the rest of the BB cushions are actual spongey-cushions soaked with the product, but this one differs – there’s a mesh covering the cream foundation.

The Scent: Iconic Laneige scent – it smells floral-fragrant, and is consistent across most of their cushion and makeup products.

The Texture: It’s not as watery as the other cushions (cos this is a cream-to-powder product), just slightly thicker in consistency. However, you don’t immediately feel the difference in texture since you lift up the product through the mesh. It glides onto the skin easily and smoothly, and yes, true to its claim, does have a powdery finish. There is some slight radiance though – about 5-10%. If you run your fingers gently over the surface, you’ll lift up some powder.

The Coverage/Finish: I’d say this is medium-high coverage – most blemishes are covered, but severe dark eye circles like mine will require some concealer to cover. It does give a nice brightened matte finish when freshly applied.

The Verdict: It does hold true to its name – yes you’ll get a powdery matte velvety natural finish, and you do get a nice medium-coverage when freshly applied. However, this doesn’t last that long especially on oily/oily-combi skintypes. The oil control isn’t all that strong, with my face beginning to shine after just 3 hours or so. Dabbing with a sheet of tissue can help remove some of the shine, but after more hours of wear, it begins to cake and get patchy at areas like the corners of the nose. The powdery finish also means it doesn’t sit well on pimple scabs/patchy/peeling flaky skin, so be sure to ensure optimum hydration of the skin (which should be your mantra everyday anyways). Overall, I think I might revert back to Laneige’s Anti Ageing cushion (slightly more dewy radiant finish, but not too shiny) or Hera’s Black Cushion (mostly matte finish)- this Powder Fit Cushion doesn’t seem to sit that well on my oily-outside, dry-inside skintype, and has a lack of sebum control. However, this might work better for those with less active oil glands. Note that the shades seem to run a little fairer than usual – I’m a 13 for the Pore Control but I’m using 21 for this.
