Review: Kiehl’s Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion

By Beautifulbuns

You know how hermits sit atop a mountain (or some cave with an inbuilt waterfall) and start growing wild bushes of hair? That’s me, but when I go on holidays. For a very strange reason, everything starts going into overdrive whenever I’m released from the chains of the work desk – the nails grow super fast, the cuticles sprout, and even the fringe and hair grow super fast. I am not exaggerating – I can get my hair trimmed at Cecica salon on Monday, and by Friday, it’ll have grown back to the pre-cut length. The mysteries of mah hawt hawt bodeh never cease to amaze – or rather, annoy me. Hah.

In any case, even though I just went through the Milk Peeling Programme at CNP Clinic again, I find that in order to maintain the smooth skin, I have to do some exfoliating in the first few days that I’m back – you know, kinda like a deterrent. I bring out my troops, so all you icky blackheads and whiteheads and gross stuff, back offfff. Hah.

I say…

  • Whenever my skin starts going ballistic from the crazy haze and dirty air, I find some tiny bumps on the chin and nose, and I immediately reach for whatever exfoliator I have on hand.
  • This comes in the usual click-top cap which is handy for use with wet hands. However, if you’ve got clumsy fingers like me that can’t open a bottle well, it might prove a little eensy weensy bit difficult for you to open it in the shower – the latch is pretty secure and tight.
  • The texture can be a hit or miss – it’s somewhat finely ground sand-like grains in a creamy texture. I know for a fact that my mom would reject this in a heartbeat because she thinks that the grains are way to coarse for her skin. However, to me, I kinda like it.
  • It has not much scent, but a rather natural somewhat earthy-nutty smell.
  • Simply squeeze a blob onto the palm of your hand, and gently apply to your damn skin in circular motions.
  • The instructions say to massage for about 30 seconds but not to exceed 2 minutes, and it’s important that you adhere to this. The grains, although yes, they do an efficient job in removing the bumps and smoothening the skin, can be a bit harsh if exposed to your skin for too long. It’s just common sense actually – if you sandpaper a surface for too long, it’ll naturally wear down and become too thin.
  • That’s not to say it’s bad for your skin – like everything in the world, too much of something will be bad for you. The important thing is to remember to use it in moderation.
  • I prefer to use this for just 30-45 seconds cos I have a mortal phobia of over-scrubbing my skin and leaving it too thin.
  • The bumpy skin isn’t completely removed, but it’s a definite improvement – After cleansing with this, I find my skin smoother and softer.

If you’re worried that this can be too harsh for you or prefer something more gentle, I’d recommend the Dermalogica Daily Microexfoliant that can be used for everyday scrubbing, and also gives a brightening effect.
