I say…
The Packaging: A sexy black glossy plastic compact casing with a metal plate, from with the foundation is dispensed via tiny pinholes in the shape of Givenchy’s “G” logo by pressing down on it. Now I know that it’s supposed to come out all pretty in the shape of the G but somehow, it seems to be mostly concentrated around the central portion only. Now that it makes much of a difference though – perhaps it just doesn’t look that aesthetically pretty, but I’m not fussed about it.
The Scent: Heavenly, to say the least. It smells so wonderfully fragrant and lingers on the skin for a good 20-30 mins after you’ve applied it.
The Texture: Smooth, creamy without being too watery nor thick. It spreads super easily on the skin and yet somehow sets into a rather “magnetic” consistency i.e. it’s not the sort to move around on the skin, unlike those super dewy types of products.
The Finish: It’s mostly matte with a good proportion of dewiness – I love it. As you can see from my photos above, there’s some dewiness at strategic locations such as the nose bridge and the cheekbones. The rest of the face remains relatively matte and there is a brightening effect as well as evening out of skintone. Most of my skin imperfections are covered, but if you’ve got those angry mountains of pimples, this won’t be able to hide it. Those with a terrible case of the panda eyes will also need to apply some concealer – my dark eye circles are clearly visible.
The Verdict: Now when I was attending the launch event, it was touted to be a “touch-up foundation” – to be honest, I totally disagree (and agree to a certain extent). I would definitely use this as a touch-up piece – it’s hydrating enough to use on the go, and is buildable enough so it doesn’t cake. In fact, I now use this as a touch-up after leaving the office (cos the skin gets rather dried up and pruney after several hours in the air conditioned environment). On the other hand, I think it deserves to be more than just a touch-up foundation. It’s definitely good enough to use on its own as a base product (except for the undereye area). The coverage is good, the finish is decent (more matte than dewiness, which should appeal to the vast majority out there). The finish is also relatively natural (doesn’t look too caked and baked). This is one of the few non-Korean BB cushions (or compact liquid foundations, if you must) that I like – it also comes in 4 shades so the lovely ladies with tanner and olive skintones should be able to get it in their tones too. A minor downside would be its price point – at S$83, it’s on the higher end of the spectrum, and does not come with an extra refill either. A splurge item that’s totally worth it.
