Review: Fancl Washing Powder II

Oopsie, sorry again for the hiatus guys – I was down with a real nasty flu bug that knocked me out for a week. Even now, I’m still wheezing and huffing and puffing my old lungs out while trying to expel that icky mucus. But then again, I guess this doesn’t differ much from my daily routine of huffing and puffing my way up that flight of stairs hurhurhur.

Anyhoos, since I’m on medication, my skin has been getting drier and drier, and I’ve had to switch to this Fancl Washing Powder II facial cleanser that helps retain my skin’s natural moisture (or what’s left of it). It’s not a new product in anyway, but I just thought it’s worth a shoutout and a short review since it’s working well for me (plus, now that Fancl is back in Singapore, you can buy them conveniently at Isetan Scotts instead of asking someone to lug them back from Hong Kong/Japan).

Fancl Washing Powder II

This is something you need in order to cleanse your face. Yes yes, I know. Your first thought is definitely “What’s with the hassle?”. I had the exact same thoughts, but read on to find out why this foaming ball is necessary.

When you open the packaging of the Foaming Ball, you’ll see this plastic sheet that’s curved up to form a cone. Do not throw it away! When in the packaging, it function as a protector and prevents the Foaming Ball from being squashed like a cute baby’s cheeks during Chinese New Year. Take it, flip it upside down, and you’ll have a holder to air and store the Foaming Ball in your bathroom.

You’ll need about 1-2 squeezes of the powder for your daily cleanse. It contains amino acids that will help dissolve the dirt and impurities on your skin without stripping your skin dry.
Moisten the Foaming Ball, squeeze the excess water out of it, and you’re ready to start.

The Packaging: A fuss-free and simple bottle with a click-shut cover. The bottom is slightly wider than the top, which makes for a more stable base.

The Scent: Nil.

The Texture: The powder on its own is very fine. When lathered up properly (pls follow my step-by-step instructions above), the foam is thick enough so when massaged against your face, you should not even feel your palms – it’s just foam/lather. It’s dense enough to give a thorough cleanse, and yet lightweight enough to be washed away easily with water.

The Verdict: It cleanses the skin effectively enough and does not leave the skin feeling stripped, dry, or taut. Instead, my skin felt bouncier and sufficiently hydrated. I’ve not suffered any breakouts thus far, and even though I’ve been having some zits from the constant travelling, this is mild enough for my irritated skin. Overall, it’s a pretty decent cleanser that’s underrated due to its lack of a fancy packaging and scent as well as the seemingly added hassle of having to use a foaming ball. Those with sensitive skin should definitely look into trying this product – Fancl is a brand that’s preservative free, so it should be suitable for all skintypes.
