Review: Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Mega Defense Advanced Daily UV Defender

By Beautifulbuns

Phew -was that a mouthful. I’m not the biggest fan of super long product names, only on the basis that if I do like it and want to recommend my friends to use it, my goldfish memory would probably fail very spectacularly at trying to recall the name. Anyhoos, for now, I shall refer to this as the Dr Andrew Weil Origins sunblock. Heh. And guess what? I’m gonna recommend it to you.

This product contains a specialised concoction of active ingredients including Opuntia Cactus from Brazil that triggers moisture to help create a clinically proven physical barrier to protect skin, and Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, the 100% non-chemical shield protects skin from UVA and UVB rays.

I say…

The Packaging: A compact tiny minion of a bottle with a screw-open cap. The cross-section of the bottle is oval (kinda like a rugby ball), which actually makes squeezing the product out easier. It is pretty stable and won’t tip over so easily.

The Scent: I’m loving the slight whiff of citrusy-lemon scents. It’s refreshing enough to perk me up in the mornings without being too overpowering.

The Texture: Make sure to shake well before usage – it’s lightweight and slightly watery, so it spreads easily into the skin. There’s a slight velvety finish and the skin actually feels softer to the touch (even when applied over my daily Bioderma Hydrabio Gel-Creme). Makeup glides on smoothly over the skin and sets as per normal  (perhaps a tad more easily now that my skin feels more velvety heh).

The Verdict: I’m always a fan of Origins (if you haven’t tried their products, you’re missing out! I love the Origins Modern Friction Gentle Dermabrasion that exfoliates and smoothens skin, as well as their Out Of Trouble Mask that -I swear- instantly minimises angry red budding pimples). I’m so glad this one doesn’t disappint – I love that it brightens up the skin without having that deathly white pallor. It leaves a non-greasy, velvety smooth finish that I wish my skin had everyday. Ah wells. At least I have this product that can also do double duty as a sun protector – definitely at the top of my list for sunblocks at the moment😀 It’s kind of like the better and improved upmarket version of Hada Labo’s Air Aqua UV Day Emulsion Moist (which I also like).
