Review: Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Gel Touch Foundation

By Beautifulbuns

You know a thing is a trend when even the mother darling of luxury brands picks it up – when I first heard of Chanel launching a cushion foundation, I was all “Take my money (and my hidden savings) naoooo”. And voila -introducing a new member of my cushion family.

Forgive the gloopy mess – somehow it must have been stored upside down, or standing upright, and the cream leaked out through the mesh.

Using Shade 12 Rose

I say…

The Packaging: It does come in a mostly similar compact-style casing as other Western/Korean brand cushion foundations – inbuilt mirror, airlock lid that functions as a puff holder. However, I note that the portion that holds the puff isn’t as concaved – your puff is mostly sitting atop it, rather than in it. The puff is also a velvety flocked one as compared with the usual Korean BB cushions that are denser with more sponginess than fluffiness. I prefer applying this using a foundation brush though.  Since this is a gel-type (as its name says), there’s a mesh (which presumably sifts out the product so you don’t pick up too much – this is similar to the Laneige Powder Fit Cushion which is a cream-type foundation).

The Scent: I LOVE. It’s refreshing, uplifting, with hints of fruitiness. It bathes your face in a scented aura for about 30 mins or so after application.

The Texture: It’s lightweight and glides very easily onto the skin, but isn’t watery – it’s more of a light cream/gel. One swipe/layer shows some slight streaking only because it’s somewhat sheer – I’d say it’s medium coverage bordering on light coverage.

The Verdict: Overall, this gives a decent medium-level coverage – dark circles and blemishes will definitely require concealer help. It’s a very natural finish that brightens up your complexion. However, it’s not the best at controlling sebum – add that on to its original dewy finish, and I was seeing a very shiny face after a mere 2-3 hours of application. Even setting with a powder didn’t help to extend its wear time by much. I found myself having to constantly blot my skin (so that my colleagues didn’t keep asking “why is your face so shiny?”) every other hour. It doesn’t oxidise and get patchy, but it’s not the longest-wearing either – by the 4-6 hour mark, most of it had faded.  True to its name, it’s indeed a glow-finish – those who love a dewy finish will adore this (especially if you’ve got dry skintype or are going to a country with a dry climate. However, if you’ve got an oily/combi oily skintype like me, or are living in a place with high humidity levels, you might want to give this a miss. (I’m somewhat disappointed though, cos I really do like Chanel beauty products). Meh.
