Review: Bioderma Sensibio H2O (Crealine H20 Solution Micellaire)

By Beautifulbuns

You guys should know my pal, local celeb makeup artist Larry Yeo right? Well, he’s actually a biochemist (bio chemical engineer? something technical and super intelligent) by training, so he does analyze the ingredients of beauty products before using them. During one of our dinners last year (this particular one was at Skinny Pizza), he took out bags of goodies and passed them to us, and highly recommended using Bioderma.

At first glance, I was like “mehhhh”. It looked so plain and uninspiring, so I wasn’t all that excited to try it. At Larry’s urging, I decided “waddahell” and tried it out. Woah. It was one of the best time-savers I’ve ever said hi to. To be honest, it’s almost a beauty sin to not know of this product – I know that models and makeup artists swear by it :D

I say…

Considering the fact that this is a very simple and fuss-free product to use, it sure has one helluva long name.  But it’s okay, since it’s a good product, all is forgiven. In fact, most of the people in the industry I know (beauty editors, makeup artists etc) just go by “the Bioderma cleansing water” and “the pink (or some other colour) version”. I know that Joanna also uses this.

  • Sure, it may not be the most affordable  (I think it goes for $29.90 for 250ml and $39.90 for a 500ml bottle) vs some other makeup removers that are less than $15. It’s also perfect for travel purposes cos it comes in a tinier version 100ml version).
  • However, it’s a super time saver – this is almost a literal translation of the phrase “Time is Money”.
  • It comes in a clear plastic bottle with and flip-top cap.
  • There’s no scent, and it’s a clear liquid that’s not unlike water.
  • It’s not really water though – the word “micellar” means that it consists of oils held in water molecules, which means they offer the effectiveness of an oil-based makeup remover with the gentleness of water.
  • It’s designed to draw makeup, dirt particles and sebum from your skin and then swept away by your cotton pad.
  • Soak the cotton pad and then leave it on the skin for several seconds.
  • Everything goes off really easily, but what I love is the fact that there’s no after-feel. Since there’s no greasiness nor stickness, itcan be a no-rinse product. I know of gal pals who put it by their bedsides – on days when they are really too tired to head to the toilet to remove their makeup, they just whip this out.
  • Did I also mention that it doesn’t leave my skin too tight or stripped as well?
  • In my photos, I also noted that it took more slightly more time to remove Benefit’s They’re Real! Push Up Liner (which has crazy insane staying power). It took away other normal liquid eyeliners with more ease though.
  •  I’d say it’s more suitable for medium and lightweight makeup cos it doesn’t really stand up to my ultra-long wearing mascaras and super thick eyeliners (you’ll require at least 3-5x cotton pads). I’ll still revert to my Innisfree Apple Juicy Emulsion Lip & Eye Remover for those.
  • I also haven’t had any outbreaks after 2 -3 weeks of use – I guess it’s tailored for sensitive skin and also supposed to help regulate your skin as well (by serving as a toner).
  • I do still follow up with my normal cleanser though, simply cos I’m used to the routine.
  • It’s available from Guardians and Watsons, but according to this blogger’s photo, Guardian is the exclusive distributor? Don’t quote me on this.

In any case, it’s totally worth the money and a super convenient item to have in your stash :) Will try out the other versions and review them soon!
