Review: 99 Percent Hair Studio – Balayage Hair Dye + Hair Treatment

By Beautifulbuns

Yoohoo~! I’ve been so busy lately that I’m all frazzled, literally. I mean, the lack of sleep and proper meals have left my skin all meh and my hair ends ready for Burning(Wo)Man, v2.0. Thankfully, I finally cobbled together enough hours to go sit my bums down at 99 Percent Hair Studio to make my hair presentable.

I chose this salon because of reliable word-of-mouth – a couple of reliable gal pals go here, so I thought, hey, if it sucks I can just turban up heh. (But thankfully, all went well).

99 Percent Hair Studio has several outlets, but I went to the one at Orchard Central (since I run most of my errands in town). It’s located on level 4, in a corner.

My first impression of the hair studio – large, airy, quiet (but in a nice cosy way)

There are several enclaves here, so each customer can have a lil nook without feeling too exposed to others/passers-by

Another little enclave – 99 Percent does hair and nails too!

There is quite a bit of greenery in this hair salon, and the floor-to-ceiling windows let in a good amount of natural sunlight (but sans the natural heat of Singapore)

This leads to the rinse basins

Anyhoos, since my hair was in total need of colouring/touch-up, and I wanted something that didn’t touch my scalp, my stylist Fion recommended the Balayage method (listed in their Services Menu under Creative), as well as a Precise Care treatment to help nourish and hydrate the hair strands.

The process: First the hair is washed and dried, then some toning is done (to darken the existing washed-up orangey copper). My hair will be coloured using a balayage technique – esentially, it’s similar to a gradient, except the upper part of the hair has streaky highlights.

I’ll just skip to the chase and show you the finished product (there’s really not much to it except for application of dye, fermenting of the bums upon the chair for a couple of hours and several jaunts to the rinse basins)

VOILA~

Look at the magiccccc – curls are tonged. But can you see the radiance and shine?

From a mess, to a head of proper tress(es)

And one last shot cos it’ll probably be the one and only time that I’ll be able to look like a hair model~ woohoo!

My Thoughts:

It’s been more than 2 weeks and the hair color is still holding on pretty strong (reds are known to have one of the fastest wash-out rates). Yay! I also didn’t have to bleach or lighten my hair for this (many are surprised), but as you can see, it was a medium brown before. For those who know me, I also have serious trust issues with hair stylist (cos most of them don’t really listen to what I want, i.e. layering my hair into 3 strands of nothing), but Fion is surprisingly astute when it comes to sussing out what I wanted. One notable and praise-worthy moment is when she asked if I wanted to have my hair tonged inwards, or outwards to the back – guys, I’ve experienced moments where I had to specify to the stylist what I wanted, and they still didn’t listen. I’ve even had an experience with a hair stylist who somehow managed to miss giving me a hair wash despite me paying $74 (GST included) for a hair cut – yes guys, I pay for my hair services. SMH. Anyhoos, this place (and Fion) are defo a keeper and a place I’d recommend. If you’re going down, you might very well see me there 😀
