Quote of the Day

By Anytimeyoga @anytimeyoga

From “New York City Ties Doctors’ Income to Quality of Care” by Anemona Hartocollis in The New York Times. Basically, the city hospitals and the doctors’ union are negotiating what amounts to performance pay for doctors.

The part that made me smile was on the second page:

A union official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity so as not to upset negotiations, said doctors considered the proposal demeaning. “To say we’ll stick a carrot in front of you and therefore you’re going to be a better doctor is a little disingenuous,” he said.

Which, it kind of is.

But would someone please tell this to everyone who seems to think tying teacher performance pay — what little of it there is — to student standardized test scores is still a fabulous idea?
